Check stone quantities for HUUM sauna stoves

All our HUUM sauna stoves are delivered with the right quantity of sauna stones, which are grey rounded olivine diabase (or olivine dolerite) collected in Finland. Here's an overview of quantities.

We like to keep things simple here at Estonian Saunas. Instead of showing you the price for the stove without stones and then asking you add them on or calculate the quantities yourself, all our HUUM sauna stoves (like our Saunum sauna stoves) are sold with a complete set of sauna stones. We occasionally provide stoves without stones on request but we find that the vast majority of people prefer having one clear price for everything together as you can't have a good sauna stove without good sauna stones.

We use a grey rounded volcanic rock known commonly known as olivine diabase (although also sometimes as olivine dolerite, particulary in British English). This rock is well suited for use in saunas because it is very durable and dense so it stores and slowly releases a large amount of heat energy. All our stones are collected in Finland where the highest quality is available. They are then rounded and polished to deliver a softer steam and better asthetic quality with the stove.

There is some debate among sauna enthusiasts about whether rounded or split-faced rocks are better. Harvia, for example, has always used split-faced rocks. Those deliver a sharper steam, which is more important when there are fewer rocks. However, if you have a stove with a large enough quantity then rounded stones allow the water to drip ever so slightly deeper into the stoves, which ever so slightly prolongues and softens the steam. That's why both HUUM and Saunum have always used grey rounded stones, which also acheives the right asthetic look.

One more thing to note if you are buying a HIVE electric stove by HUUM is air tunnels. An air tunnel improves the air circulation within the stove and helps protects the elements so they last longer. Again, most retailers offer this as an optional extra but we think it makes more sense to supply them as standard with all our HIVE electric stoves. As a consequence, the number of stones needed when the air tunnel is used is slightly reduced.

If you're interested, want to double check you've received everything, or do wish to purchase a stove seperately, here's an overview of the sauna stone quanitities that we use for HUUM sauna stoves.
